Hi
I started a new job last October and my employer pays me 鎷?50 a month (before tax etc) plus 14p per mile mileage.
As I had always had company cars before I had to go out and buy a suitable vehicle on finance plus insurance to cover business and the large amount of mileage that I am doing.
This only just covers the total costs and as the cost of petrol has risen by over 20p per litre since last year I am going to try and get the 14p increased.
I have just looked on the HM Rev %26amp; Customs site and it states that company mileage from Jan 2008 has now been raised to 19p for this type of car. Can anyone tell me if this includes car allowances. I thought about buying a car with a smaller engine size but for the amount of miles I cover and the type of goods I carry this would not be advisable.
Thanks in advance
Car allowance and mileage costs?
he 14p per mile allowance is way to small to finance your role . Obviously one of the things required for the job was to have a car which was roadworthy , so you have to accept any costs that you incurred to fill this requirement
You need to speak to your boss and inform him that the allowance is insufficient for you to carry out the role cost effectively .
Try and put together some costings before the meeting . i.e
depreciation of car
Cost of fuel
mileage against fuel (MPG)
Weeks average miles travelled
Servicing
etc
have all this before you go into the meeting and you will be on the strongest ground
Don%26#039;t go in saying you will resign if the allowance is not increased , just present the case and ask if he thinks it is fair .
If this fails you need to start looking around for alternative jobs , whilst you remain employed . It is always easier to find a new job if you are actually employed , and you will be able to present a good case for leaving this job.
If you are not good with figures etc seek help from a relative or a good friend .
Car allowance and mileage costs?
That appears to be a pathetically poor allowance, especially with the present high cost of fuel. Around 40p a mile would be more apropriate.
