We%26#039;re expecting our first baby Sept. 1st and we%26#039;ve currently got a truck with no back seat (from 1996, no airbags):

We%26#039;re very broke so we%26#039;re stuck with it for now. In about a year we hope to be able to buy a used truck with an extended cab (or perhaps a full back seat, but we need a full-size bed), and we might have more kids in the future.

What car seat would work best in our situation? No comments on our finances or child safety please.

Does it have a passenger side airbag? If so, it should have a way to be disabled or NO carseat is good.

Any rear-facing carseat should be fine so long as there is no air bag. My husband%26#039;s truck has a place to put the key to turn off the airbag on passenger%26#039;s side.

EDIT: Duh, sorry, just saw that you said it has no airbags... so any rear-facing seat is fine.

I can%26#039;t remember what its called...but there is an infant seat there is designed for these situations, it looks like an egg (sorta), it is expensive.

If you have to ise a regular seat, it is legal, just not as safe...

Well, you have to work with what you got. Any rear facing seat it good. Just make sure you put the baby in the middle away from the side windows. If possible you could get a car seat with a canopy, and if something were to happen the canopy could protect the babie%26#039;s face.

I have an extended cab and I use a normal infant car seat...It fits well for me. But I%26#039;m a small person so I don%26#039;t really need much space in the front. When my husband drives it, he usually put my son behind the passenger%26#039;s seat instead. It doesn%26#039;t seem to cause my any trouble. The space seems big enough for me. But I guess it depends on the space you need in the front.
