and today I went to a dealer. I have 1500 to put down, and the car I was looking at was 7000, leaving 5500 to finance. The loan agreement he offered was 60/week for 3 years. He said the payments are weekly because it was a subprime loan or bank. (not sure which) By my calculations, that leaves me paying off almost twice as much as the anount. Is this normal practice, or am I getting screwed?

Try going to a dealer that has special financing. You should be ok at 560 I purchased my first car at a score of 561 and they told me my credit really wasn%26#039;t that bad but I had to go through special financing. There are banks out there that will finance you yes the intrest may be a little high but an actual bank will finance you and you will only have to pay once a month. The only thing is you will probably have to buy a car that cost%26#039;s at least 10,000 for a bank to finance you. Those small car lots find anyway to screw you and you end up paying more for the car than what it%26#039;s worth. I suggest you shop around before you settle for that deal you will find a better deal just be patient.

yes, your getting screwed. unfortunately they do that when you have bad credit due to the risks of you not paying!!!

With $1,500 cash, you can buy an old car and pay cash. Then, you won%26#039;t have to worry about interest charges or getting screwed.
Then, take the $60/week that you were planning to spend on payments, and put it in a separate savings account. In 3 years, that%26#039;ll give you $9360 cash, plus a few hundred bucks in interest. Then, you can buy a nice car with it.
Broke people usually became broke by paying for the same stuff twice (once for the principal, and once more for the interest)

%26quot;I Deserved A New Jeep!
%26quot;By Rob in ME
%26quot;Two years ago I got tired of driving my old car and convinced myself that I deserved that brand-new Jeep I had always wanted. With no money down, I drove off the lot with a $20,000 debt.
%26quot;When gas prices started to rise and my income dropped by $400 a month, I realized I couldn%26#039;t afford it anymore. I then traded the Jeep in for a brand-new car worth $14,000. Suddenly I owed $5,000 more than my car was worth.
%26quot;I paid my stupid tax and learned a good lesson, but boy, was I stupid.%26quot;
