Would a used car dealership offer a warranty on a car that's been in an accident?

I don%26#039;t think the car I got has been in an accident. I looked at the car from top to bottom while at the dealership looking for any defects and didn%26#039;t find anything, but I%26#039;m still feeling paranoid. I didn%26#039;t do too much research on the car before I bought it, no carfax. But It was a reputable dealership and the finance guy said he knew the previous owner who took care of the car really well. That made it sound great, but I don%26#039;t know why today I%26#039;m rethinking things and being paranoid about it.. probably because I spent a lot of money. I got the extended warranty, but then I thought, would a used car dealership offer an extended warranty if they knew the car has been in an accident?

Buyers remorse. You have a warranty, the car looks good. Find another worry.

Depends on the dealer. I bought a 1999 Toyota Carolla that had 56,000miles and I got a 3 month 3,000 mile waranty

You can make yourself crazy and it won%26#039;t help so chill, read up on lemon laws in your state and even if it was in an accident it may run fine. used car salesmen and politicians unfortunately do not foster trust in people

Don%26#039;t trust anyone of them they are all crooks!!

Would a used car dealership offer a warranty on a car that%26#039;s been in an accident?

yes for 30 days warranty. Usually they don%26#039;t tell you if the car has been in an accident, they try to cover it up. Unless they did tell you and you%26#039;re getting a really good deal on it.

they%26#039;re not going to tell you if its been in a car accident otherwise you won%26#039;t buy it and i don%26#039;t think they would know either.

Car dealer is obiliged to tell you if the car has been an insurance write off and repaired. It would have a V23 issued. Could try contacting DVLA or speak with your insurance company/broker.

Perhaps it would exclude the prior problems, or was a limited warranty (like drivetrain). CarFax is a good thing to check, but you didn%26#039;t. They make a lot of money off of the warranties - between that and the loan, usually more than from the sale of the car itself.

In general, try to get the car checked out by a mechanic - may be $50, but may save you thousands - check CarFax, run if it%26#039;s been declared totaled or anything close - use your brain and compare, and don%26#039;t necessarily believe what the sales guy said, as likeable as he might be.

I bought a Saab (and I love Saabs) from someone who said they sold it to someone who only had Saabs and only drove this one in the summer. It may have been true, but a check of CarFax showed that it started its life out as a %26quot;fleet%26quot; car (meaning, a leased vehicle) so goodness knows where it was originally.

No, dealerships usually won%26#039;t offer warranties on accident cars. There%26#039;s a place near me that has all exotic cars that have been fire and water damaged and they can%26#039;t offer warranties. You could have demanded a carfax report before buying the car, don%26#039;t take some finance guys word for it. If it bothers you, run a carfax yourself for piece of mind. It%26#039;s probably fine though, if you paid for a warranty they have to honor it or face repurcusions from the Better Business Bureau. Good luck and enjoy your car.

The dealer should have told you if it had been in a wreak. You might call the previous owner and asked him about the car. We have had people call us before about cars we have traded in. You might call one of those places that they give you the history of the car if you are so worried about it. Also take it to a mechanic and have them look it over.

If the car has been in a accident, the dealership has to take it back. But I would do what you are going to do pretty quick. After so long, they don%26#039;t have to do anything.

Always trust your instinct. Maybe it wasn%26#039;t in an accident but it could have flood damage. Dealers get some cars at auction. The previous history may not be known. Walk away from future headache.

If you are in the UK the laws are pretty good at protecting you from buying dangerous cars these days. If you have any concerns though you can get a vehicle check done. It will cost you about a fiver but it should put your mind to rest.

There are links to several on the DVLAs website (you can find it under motoring from direct.gov.uk) or you could go straight to the AA, RAC or HPI.
